For this installation, our customer made the switch from a gas hot water system to an electric storage heat pump. Their long-term goal was to eliminate the gas connection entirely, removing ongoing supply charges from the property.

This system has a 300-litre storage capacity and typically heats water to 60°C.  This allows for the delivery of well over 400 litres of shower-temperature water (around 40°C), making it highly efficient for household use.  This system has the flexibility to go to 70°C tank temperature if required.  This assists in providing extra heated water during high demand periods.

For added safety, a tempering valve has been installed to ensure hot water is delivered at a maximum temperature of 50°C — helping to reduce the risk of scalding while maintaining comfort.

This particular installation features a solid 750mm concrete base, quality valves, and compliant pipework—a key difference between high-quality and budget installations.  As with most things, you get what you pay for when it comes to heat pump hot water systems.
